This series explores imaginary worlds inhabited by Kokeshi dolls. (Kokeshi are limbless wooden Japanese toys with a rich history of over 150 years.) I’m energized by the concept of ‘wood from wood’ (wooden toys from wooden worlds). In these works you see the portals to these worlds, inspired in part by the folds, patterns and layers found in Kimono garments. These layers create a textile gateway into a colorful imaginary world.
