NEW REALITIES
this isn't your Gram's volunteering
"Over the past two decades, a growing body of research indicates that volunteering provides not just social benefits, but individual health benefits as well. This research has established a strong relationship between volunteering and health: those who volunteer have lower mortality rates, greater functional ability, and lower rates of depression later in life than those who do
not volunteer."

—Corporation of National and Community Service, “The Health
Benefits of Volunteering: A Review of Recent Research” article
"In today’s world, taking action for positive social change is no longer optional. Getting behind issues like helping the environment, ending poverty, fighting injustice and inequality is becoming the new standard. In reaction, companies are upgrading their business models, by donating a portion of proceeds to important causes or practicing sustainability, while individuals are being asked to evaluate their choices in where they spend their money and time."

"Yes, I realize that trying to GET something from GIVING seems counterintuitive, but call me crazy (some have), I'm an optimist! ...sometimes. I'd like to think that one's humanity can be touched in the process of giving. Amazingly good things have come out of the worst of initial misplaced motives. THAT SAID, studies are now showing that your 'intention' and 'motive' DO effect the results/benefits. So think well on your intentions."
